(Petra is 32 months and Jasper is 21 months)
We have done very little in the way of tot school for the last two weeks, but we have been very busy.
In the last two weeks: the children had 8 days of VBS, we had company, and we squeezed in about 2 days of tot school activities…they were learning a lot each day.
The children had a lot of fun at VBS – most days Petra and Jasper were in the same class. If he started to misbehave or cry much he was taken off to the nursery. Jasper is only 1.5 years old, so he’s not old enough to sit still and follow directions – he does good for about 10 minutes. Petra has a difficult time going to any class still without screaming for “my mommy” – which is what she calls me these days. But 7 out of the 8 days we had no problem. It could have been because the nanny was her instructor the first 4 days. On the 8th day she opted out of most VBS activities and seemed to be ready for a break.
We also had company which meant P&J had to learn to share and get along for several days with a 6 year old, 4 year old and 1 year old. They also worked on learning to sit for dinner without being strapped into a booster seat. We also went to the state capitol together and saw the city from the 22nd floor, saw the inside of the capitol building and House chamber, and went out to the water fountain for a quick photo moment. And we squeezed in the trip to the Tallahassee Museum which I posted about a few days ago, and a visit to the track for some exercise.
For activities this week we worked on puzzles. Jasper kept standing his block puzzle pieces up and saying hello to them. It was funny. The children also put beads on a pipe cleaner and then into bottles. And they worked on stringing clothespins on to shoestrings. We also read a ton of books. It was nice to have a big girl here who could read to Petra.
Since we are working on Letter F this week – we talked about food and the children helped in make several food items, including these mini chocolate cupcakes. We also measured a fish (using a quilting ruler because it was the only one I could find at the time!) and Petra did a great job at a printable fish puzzle (from Confessions of a Homeschooler). The children also painted the letter F – well Jasper painted the flower I drew, and Petra traced the letter F with paints. We will be working on letter F one more week!
